December 17, 2019
Justine Abrams, an Associate with Genova Burns LLC, one of the top law firms serving New Jersey and the greater northeast, recently graduated as a member of the LEAD New Jersey Class of 2019. LEAD New Jersey (LNJ) is a collection of professionals who are already leaders in their companies, organizations, communities, and career fields, but desire a forum to continue honing their skills and expanding their horizons.
LNJ incorporates various leadership development tools for the program’s Fellows, such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® and Boundary Spanning Leadership into its seminars throughout the year. In addition, the program explores new leadership development training tools that further enhance the program’s value for both the Fellows and their employers.
“We are so proud of Justine for completing LEAD New Jersey’s esteemed leadership training while balancing her growing level of responsibility here at the Firm,” said Angelo Genova, Co-Founder, Managing Partner, and Chairman of Genova Burns LLC. “We look forward to the opportunities to see her apply this new knowledge and leadership lessons to her work at Genova Burns.”
Currently a resident of Nutley, New Jersey, Abrams is an attorney in Genova Burns’ Employment Law & Litigation Defense Practice Group, Human Resources Counseling & Compliance Practice Group, and Cannabis Industry Group. She partners with companies to develop strategies for effectively handling all human resources-related matters, including hiring and recruiting, investigating internal complaints, proper documentation and discipline, pay equity, performance management, restrictive covenants, leaves of absence, disability accommodations, anti-harassment and discrimination training, and how to best tackle even the most difficult of termination decisions. Abrams also litigates all types of employment law cases, representing management in areas such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful discharge. She is deeply entrenched in the evolving impact that cannabis legalization has had on the workplace.
"I applied for Lead New Jersey because its reputation lives up to its name – it links forward-thinking leaders from the across the state to champion new frontiers for progress and lasting change for the better. Unsurprisingly, LNJ graduates include some of our state’s greatest elected and non-elected reformers. When LNJ puts leaders from all walks of life, from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors of New Jersey, into one room together to tackle a problem, you not only achieve the result of resolution; you change hearts and minds. LNJ forces you, no matter who you are, to not just walk in someone else’s shoes, but balance the state’s budget, craft public policy, confront economic enterprise and community development, and encounter the state’s other toughest issues, in that same pair of boots, " says Abrams.
Abrams completed her bachelor’s degree study at Rutgers University, where she was an Eagleton Institute of Politics Undergraduate Associate. Abrams earned her law degree from Seton Hall Law, where she was Editor of the Seton Hall Circuit Review, Vice President of the Student Bar Association, and recipient of the W. Cary Edwards Scholarship. During law school, Abrams was also credited with co-authoring a leading casebook treatise on employment discrimination.
Prior to joining Genova Burns, Abrams interned with the trial division of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and clerked for the Hon. Joseph Paone, J.S.C. She is a native of Voorhees, NJ and a proud fan of all Philadelphia sports teams.
Jennifer Roselle, Counsel in Genova Burns’ Newark office, has been accepted as a fellow for the LNJ’s Class of 2020. She is a member of Genova Burns’ Employment Law & Litigation, Labor Law and Human Resources Counseling & Compliance Practice Groups, as well as the Education and Cannabis Law Industry Groups.
