Genova Burns Partner Brigette N. Eagan, Esq. will present a Lunch and Learn for the West Orange Chamber of Commerce entitled, "Hot Topics in Employment Law/HR Compliance for 2024" on October 1st.

This Biz 2.0 workshop will cover important topics for small, mid-size, and large employers to consider when managing their employees. The goal of this program is to provide strategies to so that businesses can effectively manage their themselves and their employees while preventing employment claims by current and former employees.

Topics addressed will include:

  • Employee Handbooks: Policies that are essential for every employer, regardless of size (anti-harassment, sexual harassment, and retaliation).
  • NJ Earned Sick Leave: Mandatory paid sick leave banks that employers must legally provide employees under NJ law.
  • Documentation: How to document a poor performer, attendance violator, or someone who just doesn't follow the rules.
  • Cannabis and the impact on the workplace.

Ms. Eagan focuses her practice on Employment Law & Litigation and Human Resources Counseling & Compliance and counsels employers on terminations/employee discipline with a sensitivity to employer risk and exposure; medical marijuana issues in the workplace; leave requests under the Family and Medical Leave Act and analogous state laws; accommodation requests under the Americans With Disabilities Act; compliance issues relating to background checks under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and similar ban-the-box laws; state and federal employment and wage and hour laws; reductions in force planning and implementation; employment, confidentiality, non-competition, non-solicitation, and severance agreements; and drafting and updating company handbooks, policies, and employment applications.

In addition, Ms. Eagan conducts sexual harassment, discrimination, and whistle-blower investigations as an Independent Investigator and conducts group and one-on-one training sessions for employees, human resources personnel, management, and in-house counsel on prohibited harassment/discrimination, workplace diversity/sensitivity, retaliation, and performance management and documentation.
