On July 18, 2013, Firm co-Founder Angelo J. Genova was elected as President of the Legal Services Foundation of Essex County (known as “LSFEC”). LSFEC was formed in 1982 in response to federal budget cuts imposed on the Legal Services Corporation. Since that time, it has been raising funds from the private bar and distributing such funds to public interest organizations in the community, including Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), the Education Law Center, Essex County Legal Aid, Essex-Newark Legal Services and, since 1999, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice, a program of LSFEC. Mr. Genova will be elected to a two year term.
Mr. Genova said, “I am honored to have been elected to lead this important organization, which for 30 years has been integral to ensuring that all residents of our state have access to fair representation and equitable treatment in the justice system. It is a main ingredient to the culture of Genova Burns that we all strive not only to provide superior legal services to our clients, but for each one of us to use those skills and talents to give back to our communities and to the causes we hold dear.”
Mo McCully Winograd, LSF Secretary and Administrator, said, “I look forward to working with Mr. Genova as he works to broaden the base of support, knowing that will translate into more legal services being provided to the poor in New Jersey.”
Mr. Genova is actively involved in numerous philanthropic and community activities, participating as a member of several boards in public and non-profit venues. He is a Trustee of the Newark Museum, the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Essex, Hudson & Union Counties, NJ Seeds, and a member of the Montclair State University Foundation. He also is a Trustee of the American Conference on Diversity, the Association of the Federal Bar of the State of New Jersey, Volunteers of America: Delaware Valley and John Cabot University. He has served on the board of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark and as Chair and co-Chair of the 2007, 2008 and 2012 Greater Newark Fresh Air Fund, and he is a former Trustee of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark.
