Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Newark, NJ – June 28, 2024 – Genova Burns LLC is excited to announce that Hackensack Meridian Health will participate in the Battle of the Barristers 2024 softball tournament. The event will take place on August 7th, with a rain date scheduled for August 14th.

For more than three decades, the Battle of the Barristers Charity Softball Tournament has been a beacon of community spirit, rallying legal luminaries in a passionate quest to support the Fresh Air Fund. Each year, this thrilling event ignites the competitive fire and camaraderie among esteemed law firms, all vying to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

With an unwavering commitment to philanthropy, this tournament has consistently shattered expectations, raising an impressive average of $70,000 annually for the Fresh Air Fund. But it’s not just about the numbers; it’s about lawyers and staff working together in a very non-legal setting.

Against the picturesque backdrop of Brookdale Park in Bloomfield, NJ, the stage is set for an epic showdown. The law firms and legal departments from across the state are set to compete for bragging rights and a full year of gloating over opposing counsel. From the opening pitch to the final championship clash, every game is a testament to the sheer willpower power of teamwork and community spirit.

Hackensack Meridian Health's team will be led by Florey Cruz-Cerpa, Regional Director, North, of Community Outreach & Engagement. The team will include members from both EMS and Mountainside Medical Center.

Dennis Lunde, an EMS professional, will be present with an ambulance, offering the engaging EMS Touch-A-Truck program. This initiative allows children to tour the ambulance and learn about its inner workings, providing an educational and hands-on experience.

Catalina Dubon-Guiterrez, Community Outreach Manager at Mountainside Medical Center, along with her colleague Freddy, will also be on-site. They will offer health education and giveaways. The educational content is yet to be finalized but will focus on either "Rethink Your Drink," which educates children about sugar levels in beverages, or the "Teddy Bear Clinic," where children learn about emergency response using a teddy bear.

These activities are part of Hackensack Meridian Health's "Community Helpers" initiative, which aims to educate and empower children to dial 9-1-1 in emergencies.

To ensure the well-being of attendees, Hackensack Meridian will provide a tent for a cooling/first aid station, equipped two fans and a seating area. Nathan Baldinger from Twin Rocks Natural Spring Water has generously agreed to donate 10 cases of 24-pack small water bottles. These will be shipped in time for the game. Attendees are encouraged to bring coolers and ice for these water bottles.

Dennis Lunde will be available throughout the game with the ambulance, ensuring constant EMS presence. The schedule for the cooling/first aid station is still being finalized, and further details will be provided once available.

As the largest annual fundraiser for the Fresh Air Fund, the Battle of the Barristers stands as a testament to what can be achieved when passion meets purpose. Join us for this exhilarating and joyous occasion, as we come together to make a meaningful difference and celebrate the spirit of giving.
