Before joining Genova Burns, Mr. Cleary served as First Assistant Prosecutor at the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office where he oversaw operations of the agency with a team of over 175 legal and investigative professionals. In this role, he managed case assignments, coordinated with law enforcement agencies at all levels, and reviewed internal affairs investigations. His extensive experience in the courtroom and leadership of major cases reinforces his strategic capabilities and insight into white-collar litigation.
Throughout his tenure in the Passaic County, Mr. Cleary held several senior positions, including Chief Assistant Prosecutor and Senior Assistant Prosecutor, where he handled prominent cases and managed post-indictment case processes for the agency’s Trial Unit. Additionally, he has been certified as an instructor by the Police Training Commission since 2003, educating cadets on essential principles of New Jersey criminal law.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Cleary prosecuted criminal cases for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and served as a Law Clerk with the New Jersey Judiciary, focusing on family law matters. His past academic contributions as an adjunct professor at Berkeley College further demonstrate his dedication to training future leaders in criminal justice and legal studies.
Mr. Cleary earned his Juris Doctor from New England Law|Boston, where he received the prestigious CALI Award for Employment Law, and he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Rowan University. He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and also a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society.
